Key Case studies

Case 1 - Land 400-3

AIR Director was retained by an approved subcontractor to the winning prime for the Land 400-3 tender (AIC and turret development) and supply chain development program.

During the following 12 months the combined teams created a complete supply chain, travelling nationally to meet, interact, educate, pre-qualify and select hundreds of SME manufacturers and partners across Australia for participation in one of the largest land acquisition programs in Army’s history.

Concurrently, he worked on the turret design and manufacturing process that created the entire turret assembly records piece by piece including identifying component and assembly manufacturers even input to the facility design. Also deploying in the field in support of the Risk Mitigation Activity. This work dovetailed into the overall supply chain development and pre-qualified a huge number of SME businesses.

With the additional responsibilities of the Australian Industry Capability (AIC) response for the subcontractor, he was instrumental in the two-stage approach of the ‘enhanced’ AIC proposition and worked to create a socially impactful solution that would create long-term, lasting local economic benefit.

Case study 5 - Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP)

AIR Director was retained to be the face and voice of the QTMP supply chain development program for Downer Rail.

Together with a team of consultants and Downer Rail staff, they developed a complete supply chain, across mainly Queensland, that would deliver 65 six-car train sets for Queensland out of Maryborough and Torbanlea. Tasks such as:

  • Liaison and communication with associations, chambers of commerce, local and state government, and many businesses across the state.

  • Communications, meetings, presentations, and workshops including forums where hundreds of businesses were briefed on the program and followed by meet & greets

  • On site visits with hundreds of Queensland manufacturing SMEs

  • Coordinating the social enterprise engagement with indigenous and other social businesses and programs and writing the local industry engagement response.

  • Pre-qualification and ongoing work package coordination with SMEs

Case 2 - Communications company bid support

AIR was contacted by an Australian Communications company to put together a bid team for Land 200 - Tr 2 at very short notice. Within the first week A.I.R. had conducted an analysis, developed a program, cost & timelines, and retained key contract support to provide an initial go/no go for the bid. Together with the company’s internal staff, the decision was made to go ahead and work was commenced immediately. A.I.R. was able to retain an entire bid team of talent within the first weeks of the activity, form a high-performing team with the Prime’s own staff, and manage them throughout to achieve a great result that was under budget despite timeline extensions from the Commonwealth.

The CEO remarked “Australian Industry Ready was contracted to provide us with a full team of tender writers, strategists, subject matter experts, document editors, graphics support and administration to support our bid for a major Defence contract. At short notice, Paul and the team were able to form a team and start work almost immediately. They worked hard to deliver a great result that was under budget despite timeline extensions. The ability of AIR to quickly scale up to meet all requirements across broad capability requirements was essential to the success of our submission”.

Case study 4 - Base Services Transformation Program

AIR Director was retained by was retained by one of the main Defence service Primes to provide specialist AIC and local engagement support and strategic guidance. For three months the team planned and conducted Nation-wide engagements with potential suppliers and subcontractors to support the future BSTP contract.

Although the program was ultimately paused for 12 months by the Commonwealth, the bulk of a National, multi-level, extensive capability search had been initiated and would continue throughout the imposed hiatus. The engagement program covered the length and breadth of the country. Not only the main population centres in each of the states and territories, but all local supplier areas considered ‘local’ to each of the Defence establishments and ranges falling within the BSTP, a huge undertaking.
